CHICAGO (CBS) — A U.S. Marine from Elgin has been killed in Afghanistan, the Defense Department announced Friday.
Cpl. Alex Martinez, 21, was killed Thursday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, a news release said.
Martinez was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
