Procession for a Hero: Cpl. Alex Martinez

Many news photographers and videographers were present for this procession.  These are my own pictures and videos from my vantage point in front of the Elgin Police Department.

Friday, April 13, 2012 at approximately 2:50pm, Marine Corporal Alex Martinez' body was brought down Douglas Street in a final farewell to his hometown.

Cpl. Alex Martinez, 21, of Elgin, IL, died April 5 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. Martinez was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

The first video is of the start of the procession.  The second includes the hearse going by.  It was inspiring.

  1. thank you Jon for posting this blog on Alex, nice to see Elgin displayed for all it is and not just what it isn't. Turns out Alex was a friend of a friend of mine. The family found comfort in this display of honor.
