DuPage Court Renaissance

As previously posted, the tree planting in DuPage Court is complete. Flowers and plants have also been placed in the planters. They are good-sized trees.

It will probably not a good degree of shadiness within the court for a couple of years, but considering the alternative with the previous diseased ash trees, this is good maintenance on the part of the city.

They are definitely maples. They are much hardier trees, and very suitable to the climate and the environment. They appear to be healthy and nice trees.

The city could have spent less money and acquired smaller, newer growth, but they didn't.  So, kudos to them for making the decision and opening up the wallet to get the courtyard environment years closer to the atmosphere it once had.

The only drawback to maples are the whirlybird seeds that will undoubtedly start flying at some point, making a mess of the entire court. I'm sure the businesses and building owners, and their custodial staffs, will be driven nuts by by all the seeds flying in and getting tracked into the doors. Small price to pay, though, for beauty.
